The past two years have taken a toll on travel and trade show scheduling and attendance, but as COVID fears are allayed and restrictions are lifted, we have seen a corresponding surge in face-to-face business conferences and trade shows. Numerous industrial shows are scheduled for the last six months of 2022, both in the United States and throughout the world.

A couple of cautions, however, are worth noting:

Travel prices and airline schedules are still high and subject to last-minute changes, so make your plans as early as possible, and leave enough "wiggle room" to allow for adjustments. Take advantage of special offers for transportation and lodging options whenever feasible.

If it's time to get back to business in your industrial marketing sphere, look into options for getting the word out about your products and services through geo-fencing marketing. Reach potential customers and buyers even if you can't manage an actual show booth this season. But, resolve to plan now for next year's on-site display. Remember that it's never too early to begin planning for 2023! Virtual shows will most likely not disappear, so the effectiveness of online advertising should remain high, according to analysts, and can be a great alternative or adjunct to personal contact. One report, however, suggests that there is a 60% probability that the industry will fully recover by 2023.

Important Shows Scheduled for 2022

Here's a brief sampling of major shows on the list for the second half of 2022 in the United States:

• The Sunbelt Builders Show, with an expected attendance of up to 2,500, is scheduled for mid-July in Dallas. Based on the latest reports, it should be a great success.
• Billed as one of the country's largest trade shows, the AEMP EquipmentShift Conference will be held in Cincinnati, OH, on October 27 and 28, 2022. Highlights include roundtable discussions, industry insights, and peer networking opportunities for heavy equipment fleet professionals.
• Orlando has been chosen as the site for the 2022 International Distributors Association (IDA) Convention and Tradeshow. Registration is open now for the show, scheduled from September 7-9. A highlight is the golf tournament to be held this year at the Disney Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.
• BAUMA, the largest trade show in the world for the construction equipment industry, is only held every three years. This year, it will be in Munich, Germany, from October 24-30, and there is still time to make plans, either to attend or to exhibit.
• The Battery Show NOVI, planned for September 13-15, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan, should be of interest to those involved in electric and hybrid vehicle technology. The international show promises great opportunities to interact with attendees from around the globe. It's organized by Smarter Shows, Ltd., of Brighton, UK, and offers free admission for professional visitors.
• Facility Management Professionals still have an opportunity to register for the IFMA's Expo in Nashville, TN, scheduled for September 28-30 at Music City Center.
